When I share my passion for studying astrology, the reaction often takes the form of dismissive laughter and exaggerated eye rolls. It’s almost as if I claimed to believe in a flat Earth. Then follows the unwarranted “Oh, I don’t believe in all that stuff” as if I asked. Yet, who can really blame them? It’s understandable, given the constant zodiac clichés thrown around which trivializes astrology and portrays it as a cute little pop culture topic. If it had a better public rep, more people would see that astrology can be applied to real life instead of ‘what ice cream flavor best fits your zodiac’.

YOU CANNOT GENERALIZE PEOPLE!
Even if they’re a Gemini lol
The internet, bless its digital heart, has a knack for generalizing things to the point where even your morning toast might be categorized based on its zodiac sign. When you’re speaking to someone who has no prior knowledge about the subject, they are not going to understand the context to know if it’s a joke or any other nuances. Expressions such as “you’re a Gemini, so you’re two-faced” exemplify this issue. A more nuanced approach involves acknowledging the symbol of twins associated with Geminis, wherein their natural duality manifests. Geminis are like human Rubik’s Cubes – every twist and turn reveals a different side. It’s not about being a human flip-flop; it’s about having a personality that can adapt depending on the social context.
The appeal of astrology can decline when it’s treated as a belief system or a religion, aligning more with the realms of philosophy and personal insight rather than a rigid doctrine. It’s essential to note that the scientific community generally does not support the idea that celestial bodies have a direct influence on individual personalities or life events. Astrology is considered a pseudoscience, and its interpretations are subjective. For me, astrology at its simplest form is much like math, operates as a tool – a skill set that, once understood, can facilitate various aspects of life. In essence, astrology serves as a navigational aid rather than a predetermined roadmap. It doesn’t dictate the course of your life; rather, it offers insights and perspectives that may expedite your journey or shed light on challenges. Just as you don’t “believe” in math but employ it as a practical tool when needed, astrology provides a similar function, offering guidance and potential solutions within the inner workings of life.
“Small skepticism leads to small understanding”
but you have to WANT to understand boo.
I’m [insert sign] and I dont act like that.
The biggest misinterpretation about astrology is that individuals only identify with their sun sign. Your birth chart is basically like a screenshot of the sky at the time you’re born. There are calculated points, nine planets including Pluto, all 12 zodiac signs, even asteroids all having influence on your natal chart. The result is a nuanced representation of cosmic forces shaping your unique identity. So, adhering strictly to the traits associated with your sun sign is an oversimplification. In our shared humanity, there exists a collective connection. while our astrological ties bind us together, the specific details within our charts illuminate the subtle distinctions that make each individual an extraordinary composition.

what do the stars have to w. me?
Astrologers explain the influence of planets on individuals through the lens of symbolic interpretation and the concept of energetic influences. They see the planets as archetypal symbols, each representing different facets of life and personality traits. Astrology posits that the positions and movements of planets emit cosmic energies that interact with the energies of an individual’s birth chart. The most common analogy to illustrate this concept involves the moon’s influence on ocean tides. Given that humans consist of up to 65% water, astrologers propose that the moon’s effects on water may extend to individuals as well. This energetic interplay is believed to influence a person’s psychological, emotional, and even physical experiences.
Oversimplifying or Over-exaggerating
So basically, astrology has bad PR due to people either oversimplifying the practice to stereotypes or over-exaggerating to be held up against religion. This leads to further skepticism of astrology as a whole. People approach astrology with varying degrees of belief. Some see it as a fun or entertaining diversion without attaching serious significance, while others may find personal meaning or guidance in astrological insights. My goal with this blog Sex and the Synastry is not to try and make anyone a “believer”, but to start the conversation on how astrology can help navigate everyday experiences. For example you want to shine at work? Lean into your MC. You want to come off more confident and attractive? Amplify your Venus sign. You want to have mind blowing sex? Get into your Mars sign. Life will go on with or without astrology, but why not let it help a little here and there?
