My favorite form of creative expression is through fashion. It has the power to tell a story about a person before they even open their mouth. It is a form of expression that is constantly changing with you throughout all the years and the crazy trends. It’s a gift to be able to look back at your closet and see the story that it tells.

That idea of fashion as memory and self-expression came to life at Threads of Devine, a fashion show created by Washington, D.C. based designer Moziqe Devine.

Rather than presenting a traditional runway, Threads of Devine was presented as a visual life story. Multiple designers collaborated to bring each chapter of Moziqe’s life to the stage, guiding the audience through distinct eras: the 90s she was born into, a hopeful schoolgirl phase, her party girl college years, and finally, the elegant or should I say ✨Devine✨era.

Each segment felt intentional, offering insight into the experiences that shaped both the designer and the brand.

The Devine brand resonates because of its honesty. She is open about her journey and unafraid to center her lived experiences within her designs. During our conversation, she emphasized that her brand evolved as she did. Never chasing what was popular, but instead creating pieces she genuinely wanted to wear herself.

For Moziqe, designing has always been about allowing women to feel beautiful and confident without feeling pressured to be overly revealing. She prides her brand on authenticity as “we were all created equally, but born to be different.”

Moziqe credits much of her foundation to the community spaces that surrounded her growing up. Recreation centers and youth programs not only gave her a sense of belonging, but also provided opportunities that allowed her to finish college debt-free. That early support continues to shape how she moves through the world.

Beyond fashion, Moziqe is intentional about giving back. She leads a mentorship program for young girls, offering guidance on entrepreneurship and lessons in womanhood. Growing up in a household of four sisters, she was immersed in girlhood early on. As the youngest, her sense of style developed organically by borrowing from shared closets, experimenting freely, and never seeking validation beyond herself. That same spirit of sisterhood and self-trust is woven into every aspect of her work.

The Devine Brand Today

Devine specializes in custom clothing and alterations. The brand prioritizes individuality and encouraging clients to embrace what makes them unique rather than conforming to trends.

When asked what it truly takes to build a business, Moziqe spoke candidly about intention. She stressed the importance of starting something that feels meaningful, not just trendy. According to her, having the right heart posture matters just as much as having talent, because when your work is genuine, alignment follows. Above all, she emphasized the power of being a good person. In her eyes, kindness and integrity extend far beyond personal success; they uplift communities, create opportunities, and leave a lasting impact.

For Devine, fashion isn’t just about clothing—it’s about purpose, honesty, and designing a life that reflects who you truly are.
